CHARLY ROMERO

Luthier

CHARLY ROMERO

——

In the mid-90s Charly Romero started his professional career by studying Piano Technology in London. As well as studying tuning and restoration, he worked with acknowledged experts in England, Germany and Spain, and perfected his hearing and knowledge while tuning and restoring high quality acoustic pianos. Add to this his attendance over the years at conferences and seminars all over Europe, dedicating his energies to deeply understanding the instrument.

During this time he always pursued his parallel interest in his passion for what’s known as ‘American Lutherie’. He was lucky enough to be working in Denmark Street, Soho, London where the fabled blues explosion of the 60s and 70s had brought together the likes of Hendrix, The Beatles, Peter Green, Eric Clapton, John Mayall, Pink Floyd and The Rolling Stones, and where Charly came into regular contact with both top quality instruments and the sought-after luthiers of the age. Thus he chose, as his main field, American lutherie, which is our subject here.

With 25 years of dedicated activity under his belt, it’s safe to say that Charly is more than a luthier who has learned simply by trial and error. Among his clients are numerous guitarists, both talented amateurs and professionals of national and international renown, as well as recording studios, producers, bands, teachers, and many others who have entrusted him with their prized instruments.

Charly continues to be a perfectionist, looking after every client with the same meticulous attention to detail. Repairs, upgrades, and general maintenance are one strand, and the other is the faithful recreation of the special kind of instruments that came, in Charly’s opinion, from the best years of American lutherie. And so, Charly Guitars were born.
